The Yakima Rack and Roll Safety Pole is a 40 in. tall bright yellow fiberglass Safety Pole that attaches to your crossbar or trailer frame. The Yakima Rack and Roll Safety Pole makes your trailer more visible at all times. Especially useful for backing up.

I bought the safety pole to put on my Malone trailer. It fits the crossbar very well. The pole itself is heavy fiberglass. It is set into a coil which gives flex to the pole. It arrives with either a bolt on or an adapter that affixes to the crossbar. I used the latter to put it on the trailer. It tightens with a wing nut. The bolt may need to be stabilized before it can be tightened down. I drive and FJ Cruiser and the pole was placed on the right rear of the trailer. Much easier to back the trailer up. If you buy one the trailers ACK has for sale, or already have one, buy the pole. It helps in backing up plus the orange color helps people see the trailer.
Essential product! This should be considered a necessary component in my opinion. In fact, I think Yakima should include one with the trailer. Because the trailer is small and sits low, it is very difficult to see when backing up, particularly if it's empty. The pole is also helpful in preventing others from backing into your trailer (e.g., when in parking lots). The only disadvantage is that it can make loading kayaks slightly (and only very slightly) more complicated because you have to pass one end around the pole. One final note: I would recommend you mount the pole in the trailer's track instead of with the clip - much more secure this way.
