 Product Description and Specs

The Viking Kayaks Profish Reload kayak is a performance fishing kayak with plenty of features for maximizing comfort and tackle management. The design of the bow provides plenty of lift so it doesn't bog down in rough coastal conditions. The tackle pod is completely removable and allows you to mount your fishfinder and transducer on the top and bottom and it will hold your battery and tackle boxes inside where they are easily accessible. The tackle pod can be replaced with the Viking Tackle Pod Flat Deck (sold separately) which provides a flat deck for more room in the cockpit and provides a small seat for a child. The Reload comes standard with 3 bucket hatches, Reload tackle pod, YakGear seat, 2 rod holders, and a Railblaza StarPort at the stern.

The Reload offers exceptional stability and speed, something we haven't seen in a long time. Most Manufacturers are going bigger and not designing a "paddlers" kayak, not Viking. The Reload is a sleek paddling kayak with lots of cargo room while still remaining light enough to move around by yourself. The removable tackle pod make getting on and off the water easy so you spend less time gearing up and more time on the water. Since the rudder doesn't extend below the hull, you don't have to worry about backing up in shallows or tapping over oyster.

I love this kayak so far. My review is basically comparing it to the tarpon 140 because that is what I own and have most recently paddled. I like the speed and comfort of the Viking over the tarpon. I feel there is a little more ease paddling and noticeably more stability. Usually in my 140 it would take me a few minutes to get my "sea legs" and stability down. From the moment I sat down in the Viking until I got out I felt stable. I paddled nearly 3 miles in my maiden voyage and maintained around a 3mph pace. After nearly an hour, I was surprising rested. I haven't been able to fish yet, but I have no doubt it will do everything I need and more. If you have any doubts about the reload, don't. It is a great boat with awesome features.

Q: I am interested in the Viking Profish Reload. I have been comparing it to other models...mainly the Wilderness Systems Thresher and Native Watercraft slayer 14.5. I fish in open waters from large lakes, sounds, and offshore. I want to be as comfortable as possible while paddling and fishing. I sat in the Thresher and felt a little restricted and I had to fully extend the pegs to accommodate my legs. The question is, of the kayaks listed above, which will offer more leg room and comfort?
The Viking and the Thresher are the true offshore fishing kayaks of all the the options. Between the two the Viking is lighter and offers a lot of storage options for gear and fish finder installation. The Viking also offer more legroom.

Q: I'm still debating on the Ocean Ultra 4.3 and the Viking Profish Reload. I fish open bays, marshes, and BTB. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks.
A: Great question! These kayaks are very similar, and perfect for the paddling you describe in your question. A great feature on the Viking is that the pod is removable. You can have all your gear, fish finder, etc loaded in the pod and put in the kayak after you hit the water, cutting your load time and making the kayak very light to load and off load from your vehicle. I also love the Ultra, and the ability to mount a fish finder on your pod such that it turns and you can "hide" your fish finder while you go in and out the surf and then just flip it once you are in open water. Both are excellent choices, and I could talk about the benefits of both for days. Give us a shout if you'd like to chat some more!
