I purchased my Malone XtraLight Kayak Trailer Kit from Austin Canoe and Kayak and am very happy that I did. I never put a trailer together out of a box prior to my purchase, so I was a bit hesitant to start my order, but I am happy that I did. I assembled trailer mostly by myself. My wife helped when I first started, but she basically read the instructions to me as I started organizing the parts and initiating the wiring process. There was a time or two that I had to scratch my head to make certain that I the parts were in order and facing the right direction, but all is all, the assembly was painless. Even the DMV process was not a hassle. ACK will send you the needed DMV paperwork, so if you do get a kit, I suggest working with the fine folks at ACK before you attempt to register your trailer on your own. I needed specific stickers that came later, so don't jump the gun. Anyway, I give Malone and ACK an A+ for helping me get my trailer on the road, and by the way, I have two kayaks and the trailer handles nicely going down the road with them secured to it. I do recommend getting a pair of Malone Downloader Folding Kayak Carrier(s). I love mine. One last thing, the trailer is easy to maneuver by hand when storing or when connecting or disconnecting to and from a vehicle.
Great trailer and was easy to put together. I pull this trailer with a Honda Fit (tiny car) and it tows easily. Sometimes I forget it's back there! IMPORTANT - Make sure you square the frame and square up the trailer tongue to the frame before tightening the bolts. If you don't the trailer will not track well behind your vehicle. The only thing I found concerning was with the frame being rectangular it is fairly easy to knock it out of square even with squaring it up and tigtening the bolts very tight. That is a problem when there is no angled bracing. I am adding two angle irons at opposing corners which will greatly increase the the ridgidity of the frame and only increase the weight by a couple pounds. Now the whole trailer is rock solid. By the way this was my first order with Austin Kayak and everything went great. I received the trailer two days after ordering. I would definetley order from them again.
