The Wilderness Systems Tarpon Rudder Kit helps you gain control and efficiency in wind or fast current. The Wilderness Systems Tarpon Rudder Kit is the factory rudder for the Wilderness Systems Tarpon series, Pamlico Series and Rides (Rides produced between 2006 - 2014). The Rudder Ready kit is for all 2009 - 2014 Wilderness Kayaks with cable tubing already installed. This kit includes all the necessary parts, hardware, and instructions to install a rudder on your boat. The Rudder Ready kit will not fit 2015 Tarpon kayaks, you will need the Course Control rudder.
Just completed a 100 mile trip down the Tenn River carrying camping supplies and a small sail attached to the Taqrpon160 i and i am very pleased with the performance and handling of this kayak. the best of seven kayaks that i have owned
My Tarpon 160 w/rudder rocks. Even though I bought a left over 2012 from the outlet side I expected more from ACK. Based on looking at the protective wrapping and quickly opening it up when it was delivered I signed for it because I had to rush back to work (my fault). Upon further inspection it looked like it was tossed around. Surface scratches on the forward and rear decks and the sides and bottom of the hull. Like I said before, I based my initial inspection on the protective wrapping and a quick cut open. That won't happen a 2nd time. Not happy. Again, my fault for not performing a more thorough inspection. It still paddles like a dream. Yes, I will buy more stuff from ACK. They still are 2nd to none.
Wilderness Systems Tarpon Rudder Kit - Rudder Ready. I purchased this kit after using my Tarpon 120 for kayak fishing for several months. As others have noted, the instructions are a little “fuzzy”, but hey, they cover a wide range of kayaks. The only other issue were the screws for the lift cord guides, they were a little longer than need. Having the rudder on the kayak has made a huge difference while fishing, no more picking up the paddle every few minutes to correct my position while drifting. Also, it makes returning to the landing with fish a bit easier. I hang my fish from the cleat on the left side of the kayak and they add enough drag to pull the kayak to that side, the rudder helps to keep me paddling straight. I think the rudder kit is well worth the cost, especially at the ACK price.
We received the rudder kit quickly with everything needed. The directions could have been better, thank goodness for u-tube video to help. The screws given to us to install the cables for the up and down of the rudder were too long; but it was easy to find shorter stainless steel screws that worked. The rudder workers great.
