Every paddler is faced with the decision of how to store their kayaking gear during the colder months. Those that crave the warm water and sunshine find themselves inside more and more. What can you do with your kayak and gear so when the weather warms up you don't discover a lovely family of raccoons living in your watercraft? Here are some common storage problems and solutions to ensure your kayak is ready when you are. |

Heat - This is your kayaks biggest enemy. Exposure to heat over even a short period of time can cause your boat to melt. |

Solution: Store in a cool place like a garage or basement. |

|
Stress - Kayaks will begin to take the shape of whatever they're resting on if left for long periods of time. |

Solution: Rotate your boats position often or store on a soft rug or carpet. |

|
Prolonged Sunlight - A kayak left sitting in the sun for a prolonged period of time can fade. |

Solution: Use a UV protestant product like 303 Protectant. |
|
|
Critters - Animal and insects see your kayak as a good hiding spot and shelter. They can and will leave damage behind. |

Solution: Use a kayak storage bag or for sit inside owners a cockpit cover. |
