ACK is always trying to stay on the cutting edge of fashion in the kayaking community and would like to introduce you to a couple of clothing items that will work great as the colder weather starts to set in.
The ACK Long Sleeve Shirt is one of the most comfortable long sleeve t-shirts I have ever worn. Not overly heavy material the neck and the wrists cuffs don't get tight after washing. I would suggest going up a size as the shirt will shrink a little.
The Stohlquist SplashDown ST Spray Top is ideal for any cool weather paddling. The splash top will help to stay dry and comfy out on the water. The detachable hood is perfect for when you get some unexpected rain or the wind start's howling.
For all you Hobie Kayak Sailors out there you don't have to stop just cause the wind is a little chilly. Throw on a SplashDown and get out on the water.

Doing Our Part is Good Business
Here at ACK we are quite proud of our service, our speed and our
selection, but one thing that truly separates us from others is how we
achieve all this while using a recycling program that is a win for
everyone. Recycling helps us keep our costs down all while keeping tons and
tons of waste out of landfills.
We never realized how much we were saving or what the impact to the environment was until we came across the City of Austin's WasteSMART program. Once we began
the certification process we soon realized what that what we were doing for
ourselves and our business was having a beneficial impact on the environment. and for society. In November the City of Austin certified us as WasteSMART. We are one of only 21 companies in the city that have been certified so far. This is an exciting recognition on multiple
fronts and with it I wanted to share some of the ways we reduce our impact:
- 100% recycling of all bubble wrap (both in terms of reuse and straight recycling)
- 100% recycling of all manufacturer defective kayaks
- 100% recycling of all inbound corrugated boxes. (If you have received a package with an "Ugly Box" sticker on it you have participated in our efforts)
It doesn't really stop there. In addition to the recycling efforts, we go step further in the community.
- We receive our paper packing material from the Austin American Statesman
newspaper; we take the end of their paper rolls that they can no longer
use
- Employees, friends and family save newspapers and these are used as packing material
- Not all of our 'Ugly Boxes' are ours, believe it or not we have partnerships
with local retailers for boxes that
would otherwise be thrown away
- Dumpster Diving. Yup, at our Austin locations we routinely dive in the dumpster for cardboard, it is a precious commodity
So next time your order an item look to see if it is an "Ugly Box",
this is a sure sign it was recycled and be sure to recycle it yourself.
Additionally, if you get a random newspaper article, read it, it might
be interesting...if just plain white paper, well, you missed it by just
a few feet on the roll.
We are very proud of our efforts and continue to look for ways to
improve with our Reuse and Recycle program. Don't be surprised if
you stop by for some bubble wrap or paper and we try to charge
you for it, our trash is like gold to us.
