Austin Store Face Lift
The Austin Store gets a much needed face lift to better serve our customers

There sure has been a lot going on at ACK in the last couple of months.  The Austin store got a little jealous of the new Houston location and took on a pretty extensive remodel. 

We have opened up the showroom and moved the giant wooden wall out.  The new  layout is much easier to shop for kayaks and browse merchandise.

What to Know When Buying a Kayak
Here are some things to consider before buying a kayak

Purchasing a kayak is a big investment.  You want to make sure you pick the right model for your needs.  Before you make your purchase, here are a few questions that you should ask yourself.

  -  Where are you going to paddle?
  -  How do you plan to transport it?
  -  How do you plan on using it?

You first need to decide where you plan on paddling.  If you are planning on spending the majority of your time in streams or rivers, you might want a boat that is a shorter in length which could offer you greater maneuverability.  If you plan on spending your time in open water, you want a longer boat that will track better and glide longer.  A boat that tracks better will have you doing less work in the end.

How you will be transporting your kayak is another factor that will affect your decision.  You want to ensure that your vehicle can safely and properly transport your boat from one body of water to another.  Often times a rack system can alleviate most transportation problems.

Lastly, how you plan to use your boat plays a factor in your purchase.  Do you plan to fish, paddle for exercise or take it on overnight camping trips.  Knowing how you plan to use your kayak will help point you in the right direction and help you decide which kayak best meet your needs.

Ultimate Volt & Pedal Drive System
Two new ways to get around in the Native Ultimate Kayak

We all know what an outstanding boat the Native Watercraft Ultimate is.  From the tunnel hull design that makes this craft so stable, to the first class seats and the generous storage space for gear, this was one of the top paddling boats last year.

But if you are like me, you are always looking for a new way to get around on the water.  Native is now offers two new options for getting around the water quickly, the Ultimate Propel and the the Ultimate Volt, both come in 12 & 14.5 versions.   

The Propel Pedal Drive System is a propulsion system that is extremely easy to use.  This system offers full boat control with forward and reverse capabilities.  It has a 1:10 drive ratio that converts each pedal crank into ten revolutions of the prop.  This will help you go further using less energy. The internal drive unit is completely sealed to protect it from debris, which makes it virtually maintenance free.  The drive uses a pivot system to lower and lift it out of the water easily.  It is secured with a pin once in place, and a flow plate prevents backwash from entering the boat. 

The Volt is a unique electric drive that allows boaters to travel from spot to spot quickly. The Volt can travel approximately 5 MPH and is very easy to handle.  It gives the "paddler" a tight turning radius and reverse capability, making backing up and overall maneuvering easier than ever.

Both systems are made from marine grade anodized aluminum and stainless steel components, and a non-corrosive epoxy finish protect the units, even during salt water use.

The Native Ultimate was a fantastic boat to begin with, but the Volt and Propel systems take it to a whole new level.  Check these boats out today.
