Growing the ACK Family

Austin Canoe and Kayak has been evolving and growing in leaps and bounds over the past 2 years and we have no intentions of stopping.  ACK wants to be the one stop shop for paddlers of all kinds. 

That being said we have to grow our staff as well.  We have added an employment section link located at the bottom of our web site that features jobs we have available. Check Available Jobs Here. 

ACK is currently searching for a warehouse manager to be located in the Austin, TX area.  If you know somebody that wants to wear shorts and t-shirts and talk paddling every day pass along the link.  Check back now and again for new job postings. 
           
Kayaker of the Month
Art KOMThanks to Jimmy for this month's KOM nomination.  The ACK Kayaker of the Month is Art N. from Georgetown Texas.

Art is a regular at the ACK Austin shop...sometimes a bit too regular.  He has a few boats in his fleet (assuming his wife's boat counts).  He recently traded in one of his older yaks for a Hobie Mirage Outback and as of press time he has yet to get it wet.  Not too surprising since he only picked it up a few days ago. 

Art fishes rivers and lakes all over central Texas but his true love is fishing the coast.  He makes 3-4 trips a year to fish for the Reds and Trout in the Gulf of Mexico.  Ironically, he doesn't even like to eat fish and often times promises his friends the catch but seems to still hoard them.  Our best guess is that he isn't catching as many fish as he talks about.

In addition to fishing, Art uses his kayaks for duck and bird hunting.  He upgraded to the Outback for its speed and stability.  Now he can run his decoys out much more quickly.  Happy paddling Art!

Ultimate 14.5

The Ultimate 14.5 tandem from Native watercraft is an impressive addition to the ACK sales floor.  Not only is this a fully functional water vessel, it is truly a work of art.  Sleek and attractive lines will make you the envy of your paddling group. 

The first thing that drew me to this kayak was the First Class Seats this kayak has.  Not only are the seats fully adjustable and comfortable but they are removable.  This feature is so nice, I can pull the seats out when I am loading the kayak to lessen the weight or I can pull it out and it doubles as a camp chair.  I am always looking for versatility in a kayak and Native has nailed it. 

The second feature that stood out for me was the tunnel hull that gives the needed stability that this klutz longs for.  I can stand and cast my fly rod and not worry about it dumping me,  my cargo or my trusty paddling companion. 

I was really impressed with the way this vessel paddled and I was able to load it on my roof top carrier with little trouble.  I would recommend carrying a bilge pump and deck sponge for all of your trips.  The Native 14.5 tandem has 2 channels that run along the sides of the cockpit floor that make it easy to remove any unwanted water.
