Necky, Ocean Kayak and Old Town On Display

Paddling right in our parking lot!  ACK will be hosting two Johnson Outdoors pool events during the month of June.  Each of these will take place in the respective store's parking lot.

Austin:
June 5th & 6th

Houston:
June 29th & 30th

Come out and test paddle any kayak from Necky, Old Town or Ocean Kayak in a 30,000 gallon pool.  It's a great way to test the stability of the kayak as well as cool off in the hot Texas Heat.  Members from  Team Ocean Kayak  will be on-hand providing fishing clinics and expert advice.

Come on out for some great specials on kayaks and gear for your next adventure!  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Brush Gripper
Unconventional Anchoring at its best!

When you're on the river and you need a quick anchor, the Blakemore Brush Gripper is the way to go! This anchor gripper clamps onto just about anything you can fit into its mouth. Want to stop in the middle of the river for lunch but don't have an accessible shore, just find a branch of an overhanging tree and grip it.  The clamp opens to a gaping 4" diameter and makes clamping to any brush or small tree trunk effortless.

Even more amazing is that it is spring loaded tensioned, so the harder you pull, the tighter it gets.  The Brush Gripper isn't only good for kayaking, this device is great for tent making, hanging lanterns, keeping nap sacks out of any varmints reach, and believe it or not, it can even aid you in cleaning your game after a successful hunt.

Kayak Camping
Build A Camping Kit Just For Your Kayak

When you're camping on the river space and supply is limited so it is important to pack the most compact and highest quality of gear.  Cooking always seems to be at the heart of camping, so we are highlighting two of the top items you will need. The MSR Quick 2 Cook and Eat System and the MSR Pocket Rocket Stove.

The MSR Quick 2 Cook and Eat System is a 10 piece system for you and aQuick to cook friend that packs down into a package a little bit smaller than a soccer ball.  This is probably the most essential item you will pack when it comes to food prep items. You have (2) Pots, a strainer, (2) Plates (2) Mugs, (2) Plates as well a pot handle.

A great addition to MSR Quick 2 Cook and Eat System is the MSR Pocket Rocket Burner.  The Pocket Rocket burner is very efficient and compact. The Windclip Windshield is hands down the best feature. Never worry about your meals being half cooked with the Windclip Technology, designed to boost the efficiency of the flame in windy conditions.

Dry BagOnce you have your cooking gear ready to go, you will need a couple of dry bags such as the Seal Line Baja Dry Bags to protect the gear you'll be bringing with you on your adventure. Make sure you don't forget all of the additional survival essentials you will need to fill up your dry bag.

The SteriPEN Water Purifier,  the Light My Fire Swedish Fire Steel, Adventure Medical First Aid Kits, Hydrostar S.U.B Flashlight, Insect Repellent and NRS Pilot knife are just a few other items that make great companions.

Camping and kayaking can go hand in hand as long as you are prepared.  Our selection of products is constantly being updated to help make this fun activity convenient and safe.
Kayak Tips From A Pro
Woody Callaway, Legacy Paddlesports

"Arms getting Tired?  Try This..."

In order to eliminate arm fatigue when paddling trying incorporatingtip your torso by straightening your lead arm before putting the blade in the water.  The trailing arm should cross in front of your body just below eye level. Then pull the paddle through the water using your torso muscles and only bending the lead arm when it gets in line with your body. This technique will give you more glide per stoke and will help eliminate arm fatigue and increase your fun on the water.
