March is here and its time to celebrate one of my favorite holidays, St. Patrick's Day! I have to admire the Irish for several reasons. The first being that if the St. Patrick's day festivities I have attended in Austin and Chicago are anything like the ones that take place in Dublin and Belfast then I say Well Done!!! Secondly, Ireland is completely surrounded by water and is a kayakers paradise. In 3 hours time you could fish either coast or spend the day sea kayaking an area you have never seen before. Ireland has hundreds of slow and fast moving rivers that make for endless paddling adventures.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, The ACK Staff
Our Favorite Geek Peter Messana
Many people would never believe that our entire IT and Website Development team is Peter, one of the co-owners of ACK. Most of what you see on our site has been built by him. If you haven't shopped in the past couple of weeks you are in for a treat. Your shopping experience will have vastly improved with our new shopping cart feature. Trust me, you will love it!
Peter has a passion for making the website the best shopping experience you will ever have on the web. He loves everything there is about ACK and kayaking. When not working on the website, you will find Peter in the Austin store or chasing his 11 month old son, Jack, around.
If you have any suggestions or recommendations for our website, send them on in. Peter loves to get a suggestion and turn it into a reality.
Kayakers of the Month Tomas, Brian and Derek
Our kayakers of the month follow along with the theme of the newsletter and came to us from Ireland. These 3 friends from Abbeyside, Dungarvan spent 37 days circumnavigating Ireland in sea kayaks.
I came across this fascinating story while researching kayaking in Ireland and was in awe of how cool this trip was. After reviewing their trip itinerary and learning of their online blog I was blown away by the details and adventures they shared. Check out the blog and the pictures from their trip.
The threesome not only had an outstanding trip but they also raised over 15,000 pounds for the Make-a-Wish foundation of Ireland. It sounds like more than one wish came true.
Lowering Prices! Those crazy folks at ACK do it again!
Over the last two years ACK has been able to hold most prices on kayaks and
accessories steady where allowed by our Vendors. Today we are pleased to announce additional savings. We are increasing our accessory discount for all
accessories ordered with a kayak. You will now receive 15% off all accessories when purchased at the same time as a kayak.
Equally exciting, we have lowered our shipping surcharge on kayaks to $19-49 ($19 for commercial delivery and $49 for residential delivery).
We work hard to keep our costs low and believe that it is important to pass along our savings, especially during a time when we are all feeling the effects of higher gas prices.
ACK's goal is to make shopping easy so that you can
get away from your busy lives and float down a river, fish your
favorite lake or just cruise your favorite spot.
Sincerely, The ACK Family

New Kayak Review Native Manta Ray
Congratulations to the engineers at Native Kayaks for their upgrades to the Manta Ray, turning it into one of the premier kayaks for 2008. When I first set out onto the lake I was impressed with the initial stability and although it is a rather flat-bottomed boat I was also taken back with
the secondary stability. The
speed was better than expected and I found it tracked extremely well over my 5 mile journey.
This kayak is truly designed with the Sunday morning angler in mind. The newly designed seat makes any trip rather comfy and the cup holder is easily accessible and holds my early morning coffee without worry of spillage.
There's plenty of room for gear, and the deck layout was
clearly designed to accommodate all paddlers. As I stated earlier, Native put a lot of
thought into this boat, and the fit and finish is second to none. There's a lot of little details that let me know that "these folks know how to
SPT lockable Tie Downs These lockable tie downs are perfect for carrying and securing my expensive kayak when I am traveling and staying in hotel rooms. Before, if I couldn't get the kayak in my hotel room I didn't stay at that hotel. These lockable tie downs give me the piece of mind I need to leave my rig on the car overnight.
Desperado Shoes Almost all first time kayakers make the mistake of floating the river with flip flops, Crocs or bare feet. This is a mistake many will only make once. I have a rather large collection of lonely single flip flops that I have pulled out of my local river. All you really need to do is purchase the Desperado Shoe. These shoes give superior protection and traction that is always welcome on the river.
ACK offers its sincere thanks for taking the time to read our monthly newsletter. We hope you find it valuable and informative. If you have any suggestions or requests to make the newsletters even better and more informative, please let us know.
