Happy Valentines Day
Valentines Day Tip #101

Pack a picnic lunch for you and your special someone and make sure you pack their favorite goodies.  Load the kayaks up early in the morning and plan a nice leisurely paddle that includes a stop in a secluded space to enjoy the packed treats.  This little outing will score major points for creativity and class plus you'll get some exercise.

If you live in an area that is under a thick layer of snow spend the day planning an excursion you can take at the first opportunity.

Good Luck,
The ACK Staff
New Addition
Bryan Neary

Austin Canoe and Kayak would like to announce a new addition to the staff.  Bryan Neary joins us all the way from Portland, Oregon and brings with him his lovely wife Susan and their 2 kids Lucia(5) and Isaac(2).

Bryan is no stranger to the wonderful world of Texas.  He grew up in West Texas and attended Angelo State.

Bryan will be managing one of our warehouses and our Internet customer service staff.  When Bryan isn't working you can find him enjoying the outdoors through kayaking, mountain biking or indoors banging on his drum set.

Please welcome Bryan to the ACK community the next time you run into him in the stores.
Kayaker of the Month
Lester

Our kayaker of the month comes to us all the way from Spokane, WA.  Lester was nominated by his wife Sally who has been his paddling partner for the past 10 years.

Their first kayak adventure took place on their honeymoon in Cozumel when they rented a tandem kayak from a beach vendor to play around in the surf.  They had a great deal of fun and wanted a tandem kayak badly but just didn't have the funds as newlyweds.

Three years later Sally surprised Lester on their anniversary with a tandem kayak and they paddled their anniversary tandem for several years.

Two years ago Lester turned it up a notch and got the happy couple 2 Tsunami 120's and they have been loving every minute of their new freedom and plan to take a 3 week long paddling trip exploring Coeur D'Alene Lake in Idaho just outside of Spokane starting from Heyburn State Park.  Good paddling Lester and Sally!

Be sure to nominate someone (even yourself) for KOM.  kom@austinkayak.com
Boat Show

Boat Show

The Austin and San Antonio Boat Shows were a huge success for us because since we got to meet so many new people and do what we do best, talk kayaking.

Thanks to everyone that stopped by to check out kayaks, or just to say "Hi".  We raffled off a couple of Tarpon 120's and the lucky winners were:

Austin - Casey Bridges
San Antonio - Steve Taylor
Demo Weekends
Save the Dates

It's just about that time of year.  The weather turns nice and you dust off that kayak and start playing on the water again.

That time of year also happens to be when our Spring Demo's take place.  If you were looking for the chance to test paddle over 45 different models then this is it!

Save these dates and if you don't live in Texas, come on down, over, up....

Austin:  March 29th & 30th

San Marcos:  April 5th & 6th

Look for more details later in the month on our website!
New Kayak Review
Hobie Mirage Outfitter
If the Hobie Mirage Outback is the Cadillac of kayaks then the Hobie Mirage Outfitter is the Escalade of the Kayaking industry.  The Outfitter is the baddest tandem on the open seas.  I am very happy with so many of the aspects of this kayak the first being that the side carry handles, front and back toggle handles and Trax cart makes it easy to get from car to water.

The cockpit area is roomy enough for all paddlers and the Hobie seats are super comfortable.  There is plenty of areas to attach rod leashes and the 8" round hatch with a gear bucket is perfect for separating the tackle I want handy.  The tankwell behind the seat is a little smaller than I would like but will fit a cooler or a milk crate but not both.

The Outfitter is a large investment but so worth it.  Every time my wife and I head out to fish, sail or just cruise we feel truly happy we decided to go with this wonderful watercraft.  The people at Hobie keep making wonderful gear and I hope to get the drive bags for my birthday.

Featured Products from ACK

Skwoosh Seat PadSkwoosh Extreme Kayak Seat Cushion
I sit in my kayak fishing for 5-8 hours, I know, I know I'm addicted.  But what are you going to do I love the chase.  This seat cushions from Skwoosh keeps my posterior comfy all day long.  The non slip material keeps it in place and the Skwoosh Tether saves my pad when I fall out on the rarest of occasions.

J-DockJ-Dock from Malone
The new and improved J-Dock is a must have for this paddler and his garage.  After a long day of paddling it's nice to know that I can throw my yak right up into the metal cradle and hang my wife's kayak right below from the straps with ease.  The money and quality of this product is second to none.

ACK offers its sincere thanks for taking the time to read our monthly newsletter. We hope you find it valuable and informative. If you have any suggestions or requests to make the newsletters even better and more informative, please let us know.

Sincerely,
