Austin Canoe & Kayak (ACK) is looking for a creative, lively and inspired mind to join its marketing team as a Graphic Design Intern.

This paid internship will be needed for approximately 20 hours/wk to help manage and create all the badass web design graphics that ACK needs in order to continue being the #swag company that it is. You will work closely with all the sectors of the marketing team from web marketing (like what you see at ACK.com), to Social Media graphics (please do not submit a meme) and print marketing for our five store locations. #goodexperience

Required Skills:
  • CREATIVITY
  • Expert in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design in particular)
  • Extremely strong organizational abilities

  • Must be working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design or similar field

The ideal candidate will have retail experience, experience working in a purchasing environment, as well as the love for the outdoors and the gear associated with it. The candidate should be willing to complete clerical work as it pertains to billing, shipping and inventory control in addition to the other functional duties of the position. This position carries with it the potential for advancement as Merchandising continues to grow and expand.

The Merchandising Assistant will:

Support the Buyers by:

• Entering orders and following up on order confirmations
• Communicating product updates and assortment changes to stores & customer service
• Obtaining and confirming retail price comparisons
• Validating and keying of merchandise receipts
• Verifying and auditing vendor discounts
• Gathering and maintaining online product data and assets
• Sourcing new vendors and acquiring samples
• Developing visual merchandising guidelines
• Evaluating store assortments
• Identifying/Recognizing market trends by analyzing print and electronic media
• Maintaining vendor contact information

Work with external vendors to accomplish:
• Confirmation and verification of purchase orders
• Retrieval of shipment tracking
• Resolution for shipping and/or delivery issues
• Maintenance of incoming freight tracking dashboard
• Updating back-order status
• Scheduling and rating incoming transportation
• Promotional roll-outs

Successful candidates will have the following:
• 4 year college degree in marketing or business related field
• 2+ years of experience in a purchasing or merchandising environment
• Ability to multi-task; juggle multiple projects/assignments
• Strong communication and follow-up skills
• Personal computer skills including a working knowledge of MS Excel and Google Docs
• Effective project management skills; ability to meet deadlines

Job responsibilities include the fulfillment of Internet orders, receiving inbound freight and transferring inventory to our five retail locations. Austin Canoe & Kayak is seeking a sales associate to assist with day-to-day activities in our Austin store. If you have a passion for the outdoors, and enjoy working in a high energy retail environment this could be the perfect job for you! This position requires a person that enjoys people and selling outdoor products. ACK does not promote or encourage aggressive selling but rather informative and helpful coaching coupled with the ability to close a sale without using pushy selling techniques.

The job primarily consists of assisting customers in store and over the phone, as well as handling Internet orders, maintaining inventory, and store upkeep. Learning and performing kayak repair and installs is a frequent task. This is an hourly position with growth potential.
