New Video: How To Properly Secure a Kayak to a Roof Rack

Transporting a kayak can be a little tricky. Trust us. We’ve seen or heard of improperly secured kayaks and canoes tumble to the road from a speeding car more times than we’d like to recount and it breaks our heart every single time. With that in mind, we went ahead and made a new video to help teach you how to properly secure a kayak to your roof rack even without special cradles and saddles. With a simple and inexpensive cam buckle tie down strap system you’ll have a good secure fit for your kayak. There’s plenty of explanation in the video and I’ll let Jerron show you how its done!

FYI, we used the ACK Vehicle Tie Down Kit and show a set of optional Roof Rack Pads in the video.

As always, thanks for watching and let us know if there’s anything we can do to assist you in outfitting your adventures. Leave a comment here or shoot an e-mail to and we’ll be happy to assist!

Follow a Paddlers Lead When Securing Cargo to a Vehicle

On my way to the Houston Fishing Show this past weekend, I witnessed a flying mattress coming at me while driving on the highway. I would like to suggest to those who travel with ladders, mattresses, chairs, or anything else strapped to their roof, that they should take a lesson from paddlers. Paddlers know that using a bungee cords or a shoe laces to secure something to a roof rack can only end one way — FAILURE. So save yourself from an embarrassing situation or even worse an accident by following a paddlers lead on how to properly tie down your cargo and always use the proper equipment. – Andrew @ACK Houston
