Back in early 2005, when brothers Peter and Steve Messana purchased Austin Canoe & Kayak, the company totaled one small shop in North Austin. After the purchase was completed, one store employee stayed on to help Peter and Steve, and they were also helped by a part-time worker when school was out in the summer.
Austin Canoe & Kayak prepares to celebrate ten years under current owners and brothers Steve and Peter Messana. Since purchasing the company in 2005, the company has expanded to include five retail shops and an online presence with their website ack.
I recently sat down with ACK President & Co-Owner Steve Messanna to talk about the development of Austin Canoe and Kayak, his passion for the outdoors, and the path less traveled that brought him to collaborating with his brother on their biggest project yet as they prepare to celebrate ten years at ACK. How did you and Peter decide to purchase ACK?
Here at ACK we are getting ready to mark our 10th anniversary and we figured – why not extend the celebration to our biggest fans and supporters?! So, starting this Thursday, after signing up to be a part of our Ten Year Anniversary, we will be sending out one email a day containing ACK fun facts, staff videos, interviews, and best of all a hand selected discounted item of the day!
The minute I set my eyes on a Kammok Roo I knew I had to own one. Not only is it attractive, local to Austin, and tear resistant but with the purchase of every Roo, Dragonfly, or Glider, Kammok is able to provide life-saving treatment to 5 children diagnosed with malaria in Africa.
