The cleanup was organized by the American Rivers and was part of their National River Cleanup®, an American Rivers program that keeps rivers and streams trash-free. Austin saw 128 volunteers come out to clean up about 2,575 lbs of trash from four sites along the river.
Did you know that each of our five Texas retail stores has its own page? That’s right! On our blog, you will find pages dedicated to each retail store and its local happenings; just browse the top header to navigate between the stores.
We officially declare May 6, intentionally set in the spring season (feeling like summer in some states), as a day in the year where we urge everyone to get out and enjoy the Great Outdoors on the water, celebrating the hobby, sport, and lifestyle that is kayak fishing.
For those who don’t know, we offer four Go Play Days (paid workdays) a year for all employees to get outside and learn more about our products through personal experience. Of course, it doesn’t take much pushing to get ACK-ers outside. Here’s a blog by ACK San Marcos Store Associate Casey Billingsley documenting his experience kayak fishing on the Texas coast.

Austin, Texas (April 21, 2017) – Outdoor adventure and action gear specialty retailer, Summit Sports, announces the launch of “OWN IT”, an initiative to minimize landfill waste, protect natural resources and assist in wildlife conservation while inspiring others to do the same.
The plan was to put in around 10 am, paddle until we reached the island we’d camp on, spend the night, then pack up and paddle until we reached our take-out point under a bridge around mid-afternoon the next day, where Rising Phoenix would pick us up and take us back to Bastrop.
The experience was probably the best I’ve ever had camping anywhere, and it probably wouldn’t have worked out if I didn’t have help from work-the gear that ACK provided make the trip possible.
