Join us in welcoming Brett Detlefsen to the ACK team!
Check out this quick Q&A to learn a little more about Brett and his love for the outdoors.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I hail from the Midwest, growing up on a lake in central Nebraska. You could say I began growing gills at a very young age and always wanted to wet them whenever I had the opportunity. I’m a legit Cornhusker as I graduated with a Business degree in Marketing from the University of Nebraska. I officially headed south soon after and began a career in the outdoor industry.
What is your earliest memory of the outdoors?
Nebraska is known as the “Mixed bag capital” for its diverse big game species, four varieties of turkey, as well as upland and waterfowl. The hunting is phenomenal as pheasants and quail flourish up in the vast open grass and corn fields.Working a field after a fresh snow with great dogs is something to experience as well as hunting ducks and geese over an icy river. Early memories also involved chasing after toothy walleye, pike, and musky that were ferocious fighters.
Describe your ideal outdoor adventure weekend.
I’m a pretty simple kind of guy, so anything outdoors with my wife, dog, friends and family, good food and drinks and I’m awfully happy. I’ve been getting real addicted to the salt lately after I hooked into a bull red. You can also find me paddling the river behind my house.

What are your must-have products for any outdoor adventure?
Having the right gear and equipment sets you apart as a sportsman chasing fish and game. I could go on and on about which must-have products are in my arsenal, but the best gear is what gets you stealthy and unnoticed by nature. This is why fishing out of a kayak is so wonderful. The latest generation of fishing kayaks offer better fishability, versatility, and angling efficiency than ever before.
What are you most excited about working at ACK?
I have spent seven years employed at big box outdoor retailers, so the change of pace will be exciting. Not running around 60,000 sq. ft. stores with folks in my earpiece all day has become quite the adjustment. I really enjoy the culture at ACK as it struck a chord with me as THE booming paddle sports scene here in Austin, especially in kayak angling. I hope to bring my leadership, dedication to customer service, merchandising and passion for the outdoors to the ACK team.
