Announcing the 2011 ACK Kayak Fishing Challenge Winners!

The crowd enjoying pizza and refreshments while they wait for the results

Typically, when my alarm goes off anytime before 6am my hand always makes it’s way to the snooze button, on target and with no effort whatsoever. However this wasn’t the case on October 16th, 2011. It was 4:45am and I was out the door in less than 10 minutes, bright-eyed and ready to go! I know this excitement was shared with many others. As I drove up to Lady Bird Lake I could see the faint light of a small lantern and a line of eager anglers waiting to check-in for the 2011 ACK Fishing Challenge.

The morning started off calm and cool with temperatures hovering in the upper 50s. The lake stood still, that is until 60+ anglers began their journey into the darkness hoping to secure a spot in their respective divisions.

1st Place Competitive Division: Ryan Herzog

I expected some early weigh-ins but to my surprise, almost all anglers were on the water for the duration of the tournament. As the first group of anglers made their way in, some were disappointed but many lucky ones had some impressive stringers and based on the smiles on their faces, they knew it!

1st Place Fun Division: Sean Mecredy

ACK would like to congratulate this year’s ACK Fishing Challenge Winners! Ryan Herzog, claimed the grand prize, a brand new Native Watercraft Manta Ray 12. Here’s what he had to say:

“I am very fortunate to be able to take 1st place in he ACK Fishing challenge. Going up against the best anglers in central Texas and coming out on top is a big accomplishment. ACK did a wonderful job of organizing and running the event. Everyone that I talked to at the weigh-in had a blast. Top notch all the way! I am definitely looking forward to next year’s event already.”

1st Place Kids Division: Autumn Favor

Good job Ryan, and of course the rest of the participants for putting your best effort into this. While Ryan accepted his new kayak, others enjoyed other prizes and goodie bags provided by our generous sponsors including: Bending Branches, Scotty Paddlesports, Wildcat Lighting, Feel Free Kayaks, Fish-n-Hunt, Malone, Columbia, Get Five Lures, Yeti Coolers, Yak Attack, Kayak Angler Magazine, Lonestar Outdoor News and Tifosi Optics.

On behalf of the entire ACK organization, I would like to thank all anglers, sponsors and volunteers for your participation. You’ve helped us in many ways including making it possible for us to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Kids Outdoor Zone, a youth ministry that provides mentorship and loving care to children through a variety of outdoor activities. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event!
