Austin, Texas (July 7, 2011) – Austin Canoe and Kayak, an award-winning paddlesports and outdoor retailer, announces the launch of the free version of the ACK Kayak Launch Points App for iPhone and iPod Touch for immediate download from the iTunes App Store.

The free version of the Launch Points App, which offers all of the same features as the paid version, enables users to explore, rate, add photos, review and share kayak and canoe launch points while on the go. It was featured in Apple’s “What’s Hot” section and hovered in the top-twenty paid lifestyle section for two weeks.

“Our sponsors, which include Johnson Outdoors, Aqua-Bound, Seals, Scotty and Stohlquist, have helped make this launch a reality for us,” said Peter Messana, CEO of Austin Canoe and Kayak. “while the ad-free App is reasonably priced, this version gives those paddlers who are not ready to make the investment a chance to see how effective this tool can be.”

Why only iphone when there are many more Android phones out here? Android should be first in the OS for the app. Boo.

    • Peter says:

      Jim –

The decision and approach is a bit more complicated than which has the most out there. We are actively working on an Android version and hope to have a tentative release date in coming weeks.

I am am for the Android version!
I do understand iPhone is ONE phone to develop for whereas Android, having 44% of the market, has many manufacturers of phones and tablets to develop for.

    • Peter says:

We should have some better information in the coming week or two in terms of *when*…I can assure you, it isn’t that far off.
