Waste...NOT

So, how much do we throw away at ACK? Hardly anything!

Let me put this into perspective, we used to throw away a dumpster full of stuff every two days until we decided that recycling and reusing was best.

For those that have ordered from us you have probably noticed that we recycle. If it is a small boxed item we first try to use a recycled box, if we do not have one then we used a purchased box. You will know if it is recycled, we have a nice "Ugly Box" sticker. I am guessing you are also reading the Austin Newspaper, we teamed up with the American Statesman and we take their overun and misrun papers and use them for wrapping materials.

Those that have purchased a kayak you will find two different packing methods depending on the kayak and how it is wrapped. We try to recycle large boxes and use them to wrap the kayaks before bagging, if we run out of cardboard we fall back on our 'tuff sack' wrapping. The 'Tuff Sack' wrapping is like shipping gold so we do prefer the other method and it seems more fair for the environment. On a side note, at least two people got a great looking Ford 150 box from my son's truck (yes, we even cart our personal boxes to work).

Now, what is the real point here? It isn't to tell you how great we are or how we do not throw away much, it is to remind you or inform you that everything that we ship is recyclable with the exception of the 'Tuff Sack' and we encourage you to recycle whenever possible. The bubble wrapped bags we ship in have been used at least twice and sometimes three times prior to shipping to you and they can be recycled anywhere that takes plastic. The cardboard, well, is cardboard.

Please help us out by ensuring that the recycling cycle continues with all of our wrapping and packing material.
